WELCOME, GOD JR.: DC reports he has finished his new novel, 'God Jr.'. Grove Press will publish the book in the fall of 2005. We here at the website are very curious about this novel, which DC has described as quite different from his other books. We asked him a few questions about 'God Jr.,' and here's a consolidation of his answers:
"It's a short novel, but it's full. You know that I'm very into compression, so the novel's much bigger than its actual length, if you understand what I mean ... I said it was rated PG-13 because there's no sex, no sexual fantasy, no violence (except in a videogame), no gay characters. But there is a lot of pot smoking. ... No, I don't think anyone could call it a 'mainstream' novel. Not at all. It might be more accessible or universal than my other novels, but it's just as experimental. ... The story is really hard to describe. It's very simple in a way, but it's so intricate that I don't know how to paraphrase it. Maybe think James Agee's 'A Death in the Family' (with a dash of Homer's 'Odyssey') crossed with the videogame 'Banjo Kazooie.'

UPDATE: 'THE SLUTS': DC's forthcoming, xxx-rated novel, forthcoming this December from Void Books will be an even scarcer item than originally thought. Due to the care and expense involved in creating the novel's elaborate, precious packaging, its print run has been reduced from 1000 copies to a mere 500. The edition will be numbered and signed by DC. Word has it that the price will be in the $40 to $50 range. So DC fans might want to get their orders in early. When the book becomes available for pre-order, you'll be the first to know. Many DC fans have written us to ask if there are plans for a larger, cheaper, paperback edition in the future. According to Void Books, that is a possibility, but no decision will be made until after the limited edition version is published.
